“Damoiselles et damoiseau.x, ladies and gentlemen, welcome, bienvenue, to the enigmatic, mysterious, and strange world of Cabaret Mademoiselle…”

At the heart of Brussels nights lies a unique place where everything is allowed: extravagance, dreams, celebration. A place where the expression of sensuality merges with total artistic commitment.
As the legendary drag queen Mademoiselle Boop had hoped since the cabaret's creation in 2017, the Cabaret Mademoiselle has become a living sanctuary where performers of all kinds—drag queens, kings, freaks, pole dancers, and burlesque artists—could come together, united by their shared passion for self-expression and artistry. Each show is a door that opens, a wall that falls. A place where open-mindedness and tolerance, far from categories and labels, are the watchwords. A place where diversity is not just accepted but celebrated.
At last, Cabaret Mademoiselle has its official book!
Glitter & Grit plunges you into the heart of this extraordinary stage—a world of dazzling photos and powerful stories that stir emotions, spark transformations, and ignite the night. More than a show, it’s a revolution wrapped in sequins and feather boas...

Glitter & Grit tells the story of the extraordinary troupe who, night after night, give themselves completely to their art with boundless dedication to the audience. Each performance is the expression of a form of liberation. Glitter & Grit is also a manifesto: this troupe—a united body made up of multiple individualities—offers the audience the chance to grasp the power of the collective when it is entirely driven by the desire to embrace its differences and to fight for them.

The Cabaret Mademoiselle is a space where gender, sexuality, and artistic influences are fluid, where everyone is free to explore and express their true selves without fear of judgment.

Burlesque, freaks, queens and everything in between.

A beacon of freedom and creativity, Cabaret Mademoiselle now has its own tribute book: Glitter & Grit captures, in more than 150 photographs, the flamboyant universe of this stage and reveals—as never before—its backstage world.

If closeness with the audience allows every audacity, it is on stage that everything unfolds: the force of emotions, flesh stirred, the humor of a popular song, languid bodies, voice and gesture at their climax. What is art, if not an absolute quest for identity combined with the total gift of oneself?

It is behind the scenes that everything takes shape: light games, costume changes, physical transformations, before the glittering, glamorous world shines before the audience and the artists unveil their sublime art.

Cabaret Mademoiselle is about creating a place where drag queens, drag kings, burlesque performers, and self-proclaimed freaks can come together to celebrate their art, their identities, and their right to exist without limits! The success of Cabaret Mademoiselle proves that their talent matches their commitment.

Cabaret Mademoiselle offers its audience the chance to step into a unique state of mind—an art of vibrating, trembling, and dreaming together. This book is a testament to that spirit. The glitter and brilliance of the acts embody a fierce fight for freedom and self-affirmation. Cabaret Mademoiselle is a place where the transgression of gender norms is celebrated through the immense talent of its artists. Glitter & Grit, the title of the book, captures the dual power of this art of metamorphosis. It’s not just a cabaret—it’s a revolution wrapped in sequins and feather boas.

Cabaret Mademoiselle is:
✨ More than 70 artists, technicians, and collaborators who find there a stage, an artistic family, and a source of income.
✨ 10,000 spectators each year—a loyal, curious, and intergenerational audience.

Supporting this book also means supporting Cabaret Mademoiselle.
Like all live performance, Cabaret Mademoiselle is not immune to the fragility of its economic model, despite its success and sold-out shows every night (65 seats/show)! To keep innovating, creating new shows, and investing in costumes and stage lighting, it needs continued financial support.

All of the photographer’s royalties from this book will be donated to Cabaret Mademoiselle to support its artists and creative community.

Why Crowdfunding?
The virtuous model of crowdfunding (through pre-purchases) enables artists to finance their work upfront. By supporting this campaign, you become an essential part of the project, contributing to its success and strengthening the community behind it.

Publishing a photo book is an ambitious endeavor—and in today’s digital, intangible world, preserving the physical trace of an artwork feels more vital than ever. A photo book is a lasting object to hold, share, and revisit — a celebration of the love for paper, a living medium that invites you back into the artist’s universe at any moment.

About the Book

For several months, photographer Éric Espinosa immersed himself in every corner of Cabaret Mademoiselle. He attended the shows and, over time, managed to blend into the background, slipping into the secrets of the backstage world and becoming a privileged witness to the artists’ transformations and intimate moments. Some have become icons of the cabaret—Mademoiselle Boop, La Veuve, Colette Collerette, Aleksei Von Wosylius, and Loulou Velvet—while others are rising stars on the drag scene in Brussels, Espressa and Jo.iel Love.

Glitter & Grit was conceived as a glamorous and sensual showcase, capturing the very spirit of the Cabaret Mademoiselle. Featuring 150 exclusive photographs, it takes readers on a journey from stage to backstage, from shadow to light. With a foreword by La Veuve, one of the Cabaret’s two founders, the book also pays tribute to its most emblematic personalities through powerful stories retracing their paths.

About Éric Espinosa

Born in 1968 in Marseille, Éric Espinosa grew up in the Paris region. He first trained as a chemical engineer in Paris, then studied in the American Midwest before pursuing an international career of more than thirty years in a major American industrial group. This career took him to live in Italy, the United States, and now Belgium — where he has resided for several years in Brussels. During his stay in Italy, he studied photography under photographer David Alan Harvey, who became his mentor. He carried out several significant photographic projects, including a very personal work on the world of boxing in the United States, in the city of Cincinnati, immersing himself in the lives of underprivileged young Black men in the Over-the-Rhine ghetto. This series led to a book and numerous features in magazine press.

In 2024, Éric made the decision to dedicate himself entirely to photography and to tell the story of Cabaret Mademoiselle, which in just a few years has established itself as a key reference in Brussels nightlife.
