Useful Lies - Éric Antoine
Useful Lies features the majority of Eric Antoine's photographs from the past five years and is structured around four main series. It is approximately 200 pages long, with 90 images, and includes an essay on this body of work by art historian Pierre Wat.
The resemblance to his previous book, Ensemble Seul, is clear but not incidental: this second book is part of a five-volume collection that will move from a black cover in 2015 to a white cover in 2035.
Éric Antoine continues his wet collodion practice; all the images in the book are drawn from his ambrotypes, made with a large-format camera in sizes ranging from 24×30 cm to 40×40 cm. The book has been produced with great care to reproduce as faithfully as possible the tonal nuances of these unique pieces.
