Paul Nicklen, wildlife photographer and storyteller, has followed the beauty of nature to the edges of the Earth. Reverence is the culmination of his life’s work and what he calls the most important project of his life.

For more than three decades, Paul Nicklen has photographed the resilience and fragility of our living planet, following the rhythm of nature through moments of beauty, loss, and renewal. After years of painstakingly revisiting millions of images from his archive, Nicklen has chosen the ones that speaks with the most truth, with the most heart.

Paul Nicklen has spent his life documenting the beauty and struggles of the wild, listening to the wisdom of nature, and sharing its story through his photographs. After decades behind the lens, he returns to his roots with this career-defining work, a photographic journey through the soul of nature.

Reverence is a visual and emotional exploration of both iconic and never-before-seen imagery. It is not only a tribute to the fragility and strength of the natural world, but also a deeply personal reflection on memory, loss, and belonging.

In a time of escalating climate crisis and vanishing wilderness, Reverence is Paul Nicklen’s most intimate and evocative work to date. Through breathtaking images captured across the planet’s most fragile ecosystems, this book calls on us to pause, witness, and protect what remains, dissolving the lines between humanity and nature.

About the Book

“This books is a celebration of the places that have fed my soul the deepest through the last 30 years.” — Paul Nicklen

REVERENCE. A word that evokes awe, deep respect, and intimate connection. It is what we feel in the presence of a whale beneath the ice, in the watchful gaze of a polar bear, in the way photons collide with water to create shifting patterns across the ocean’s surface. It is what the natural world inspires when we pause long enough to truly see it.

Reverence is the culmination of a life spent immersed in nature. Moving seamlessly through Antarctic waters filled with leopard seals to underwater kelp forests teeming with life, each frame captures the intricate dynamics of these ecosystems, revealing patterns, behaviors, and relationships often overlooked.

Born from years of observation and exploration, the book reshapes how we perceive the world, blurring the boundaries between humanity and the wild, and inviting readers to adopt a more attentive, wiser lens on our planet.

About Paul Nicklen

Paul Nicklen is one of the rare photographers to document marine and polar ecosystems from within, combining scientific expertise with cultural intimacy. Raised on Baffin Island among the Inuit, he learned to track animals, endure harsh sea ice, and cultivate patience and observation from generations of elders, lessons that shaped the respect and understanding defining his work.

An award-winning photographer and National Geographic contributor, Nicklen blends intimacy with fluid storytelling, bringing viewers into close encounters with wildlife and revealing subtle gestures, curiosity, and intelligence. As co-founder of SeaLegacy, he channels photography into conservation action, merging storytelling with real-world impact.

Rooted in science, experience, and ecological kinship, his work celebrates the resilience, beauty, and vitality of the natural world, offering a vision of nature that is intricate, alive, and worth protecting.
