It took me four years of work to successfully create a new universe for Aqua Obscura.
I wanted to bring out the textures created by the movement of water, to capture everything that surprises me when I am in the water.
I wanted the emotion to live through the photos, to show you what amazes me in the ocean, to make you feel what I feel during those hours spent observing the light and textures.
I worked a lot with slow shutter speeds to bring out certain textures, certain reflections, certain movements, but also to draw and paint with my camera.
No doubt those years of painting when I was young left an indelible mark on my mind and my taste for art. I think my love for painting will stay with me forever and will always affect my art.
I wanted to paint with light, to let the movements of the water draw my photos. I spent a lot of time experimenting, researching, and often failing to achieve this work.
This is what gave birth to my jellyfish series, these bubbles that rise to the surface, mimicking the appearance of animals.
Beyond the concept of textures and movements, I wanted to create a unique universe for this book, something a little unusual where blue would be the predominant color.
I first chose a very special matte, textured paper in order to bring out the marine lights as much as possible and add a tactile and visual experience. Then I chose to work only with custom blue inks while printing in order to offer as wide and rich a palette of blue as possible.
We achieved shades of blue that had never been seen before and succeeded in creating a unique look.
Aqua Obscura will immerse you in a deep blue ocean, where your eyes can focus exclusively on the light and its reflections, which give the ocean its different hues.
