Fabrice Dekoninck

Fabrice Dekoninck is passionate about history and the issues surrounding the construction of memory, and initially worked on the “dead” memory of the soldiers of the Great War, inspired by his reading of Maurice Genevoix’s story “Ceux de 14”. Following this work, exhibited at the Mémorial de Verdun as part of the Centenary of the Great War mission (2017), he began working on the recent memory of a major conflict in Europe, the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Drawing on his extensive reading and interviews with survivors and witnesses, as well as his study of the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, he has succeeded in shedding light on the traces of the past, breaking the silences, and freeing himself from the manipulations of memory still at work in Bosnia-Herzegovina, thus paying tribute to all those who disappeared. “Between Fears and Hope” is his second book, following the 2017 publication of “Comme on peut” (Creaphis, France).
