Our Manifesto
Why did we create Hemeria?
There are many publishing houses dedicated to photography, so it’s essential for us to explain why we created Hemeria and why your trust through your purchase gives meaning to what we develop.
In a few words:
- We support photographers who develop long-term projects. Their commitment is total, and they all contribute a vision of the world that we find unique and essential. Making a book is a way to share it with as many people as possible, sustainably. From Cristina Mittermeier to Xavier Dolan, from Olivier Laban-Mattei to Guillaume Bonn, from Christophe Jacrot to Nathalie Roze, from Laurent Ballesta to Laurent Baheux, they all bring together a genuine, loyal community that has understood the sincerity of their commitment.
- It’s these different communities that we had in mind when we decided to create our own crowdfunding platform. Thanks to them, we manage to raise all or part of the funds necessary to cover the production costs, which remain very high. Crowdfunding becomes a virtuous act, in addition to the fact that it allows us to best adjust the quantity of books to print.
- We share the profits of each project equitably with each photographer. In our model, the photographer is a partner. It’s only right that their remuneration reflects this partnership, which we build over the long term.
- We manage the production of our books ourselves, in-house. Our expertise in image processing is unique. For each project, we recommend and develop tailor-made processes so that each image expresses its full potential, depending on the paper, the desired printed result, and the printing technologies we will use. That’s why our books are beautiful. We call it the “wow effect” among ourselves. You’ll understand when you receive your book!
- Our books are printed on the most high-quality creative papers on the market and with partners that we choose based on their ability to integrate our technologies into their machines. They are mainly located in France. Papers and printers have obtained labels for compliance with environmental standards.
- Our books are available online but also in bookstores, in France and internationally, to reach the widest possible audience and make our photographers and our books known all over the world.
- Better than a screen, a book is something to touch, give, and share; it’s a living, lasting material. In an increasingly dematerialized world, we nevertheless use all the advantages of digital technology to continue to ensure that physical books and printed photography continue to exist. That’s why we invite you to stay in touch with us also via social media.
